Online IELTS classroom 1.1

In the video below, I explain the new ‘vision’ for this site. Perhaps you’ve noticed that the site even has a new name: ‘IELTS Simon’s Online Classroom’.

The second part of the video introduces our task for this week’s lessons. By Friday we should have written a full task 2 essay together.

Here’s the IELTS writing task 2 question:

Some people argue that because the Internet makes it so easy for children to access facts, schools should not focus on teaching facts. Instead, they should focus on developing children’s skills and potential, and their relationships with other people.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Here’s your task for today:

We need to start by planning. Please share your ideas in note form in the comments below:

  1. What is your overall opinion: agree, disagree or partly agree (balanced view)?

  2. How will you structure the essay?

  3. What will be your central idea and supporting ideas for the two main paragraphs?

As I explained in the video, the comments area is our ‘class discussion’ space. Feel free to participate or simply observe. As in a ‘normal’ lesson, some people speak more than others!

In tomorrow’s lesson, I’ll take your ideas and create our essay plan. I’ll then move on to the essay ‘skeleton’ (introduction, topic sentences, conclusion).

I look forward to seeing your comments as we work together this week!
